According to Obasanjo, Buhari's passing would be deeply felt

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has spoken out about his grief over Muhammadu Buhari's passing, praising Buhari for the several roles he performed in government.

After a protracted illness, Buhari passed away in London at about 4:30 pm on Sunday.

In an interview given in response to the news of the former president's passing on Sunday, Obasanjo stated that the country required the full breadth of his knowledge to guide its current course of action.

He prayed that God would grant the late president Aljanah Firdaus and said that the country will miss the president dearly.

"I received this afternoon the passing to glory of a colleague, a comrade, a co-patriot, General Muhammadu Buhari.

In his roles as a soldier, an administrator, and a statesman, he played his role with dignity and honour," Obasanjo said.

His downfall has occurred just when we need the wisdom and, dare I say it, statesmanship, of everyone who has ever had a chance to steer our nation's affairs to help us escape this mess.

"May his soul rest in perfect peace; he is greatly missed."

Muhammadu Buhari overthrew Shehu Shagari's democratic administration on December 31, 1983, and ruled Nigeria as a military dictator until August 27, 1985.

He returned as president after a long absence, this time elected democratically, and served for two years (2015–2023).
