The Afokang Custodian Centre is under investigation for alleged malnutrition, according to the Interior Minister

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of the Interior, has voiced his concern about a frightening Facebook video that allegedly shows prisoners at the Afokang Custodial Centre in Calabar being treated inhumanely, including having their beans brought to them in an undercooked state for breakfast.

The minister deemed the occurrence as a severe violation of the norms of care and decency that prisoners are entitled to, according to a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde.

After that, he ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the situation, sternly threatening that anyone at fault would face the full force of the law. He also made it clear that he would not stand for any violations of the prisoners' rights to adequate nutrition, hygiene, and welfare.

He thinks the Nigeria Correctional Service should make sure convicts are handled with respect and dignity.

"The public will be informed of the investigation's findings, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be implemented," Tuunji-Ojo stated in the statement.
