Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State, received a donation of N150 million from Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, a famous Nigerian musician.
The musician, who was born in Edo, was reportedly in the state for the Edo@33 celebration, where he played at the state government-invited Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium performance and the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Dome.
Rema expressed his gratitude for the church's support during a challenging time in his boyhood by donating to the Edo Regional Headquarters of the church, which is situated at Erediauwa Street off Ekenwa Road.
At the thanksgiving ceremony, the world-renowned musician shared how the church helped his family cope with the death of his father when he was eight years old.
"I am not here to receive praise or glory for myself, but to give glory to God," he declared. Plus, I wanted to show my appreciation to the church that has welcomed me, prayed for me, and encouraged me to be true to my faith.
When my dad passed away when I was eight years old, my family and I felt completely abandoned.
"Everything we owned was taken away from us, and we were completely alone. I still remember when this church's pastors, Joy and Thomas, opened a store for my mom, and that's how she took care of us and fed us."
He explained that he gave the church N150 million as a token of his gratitude for all the help the congregation had given him and his family.
For starters, I'd like to commit forty million naira to the church's infrastructure development; for the publication of Rhapsody of Realities, twenty million naira; and last, since I am a product of the teen church, twenty-five million naira to the church.
"And to top it all off, I am pledging N20 million to help all the widows in attendance if there are any in the church today," he said.
