Abiodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti State, has appointed a 13-person negotiation team to begin talks with organized labor in advance of the state's minimum wage implementation.
The decision to establish the committee followed President Bola Tinubu's signature of the minimum wage law on July 30, 2024, according to a statement made in Ado Ekiti by Special Adviser, Media, to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode.
Government officials and the state's organized labor leadership made up the negotiation committee, according to Oyebode.
Government officials consisting of Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi (as chairperson), Akintunde Oyebode (as commissioner for finance), K. Faromiluyi (as special advisor on labor matters), and Mrs. Titilayo Olayinka (as accountant general) make up the negotiation committee.
They are joined by Mrs. Janet Ajibola, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Establishment and Service Matters, Oluwadare Jolumo, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Bamise Sunday Julius, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
Organizational labor representatives on the committee include Joint Negotiation Council Chairman Olufemi Ajoloko, Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman Olatunde Kolapo, and Trade Union Congress Chairman Sola Adigun.
Dr. Israel Taiwo of the Nigeria Labour Council, Yemi Peters of the Trade Union Congress, and Yetunde Emmanuel of the Joint Negotiation Council are among the others.
The announcement went on to say that Wednesday, September 4, 2024, is the date of the committee's inaugural meeting.
