The death of unarmed demonstrators in Kenya by security personnel has been sharply condemned by Comrade Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Tuesday, Frank issued a statement in which he made this request.
At the same time, anti-government rallies have rocked Kenya, killing more than eleven people, according to CNN.
The Saba Saba protests, which erupted on July 7, 1990, and were the catalyst for Kenya's drive towards multi-party democracy, are being commemorated by the demonstrations on this, the 35th anniversary of its occurrence.
In response, Frank slammed the murders, saying they were unconscionable in a democratic society, and he fervently urged with Kenyan President William Ruto to immediately end the bloodshed by bringing the security forces to their knees.
“It is time to stop these avoidable murders,” Frank proclaimed, pleading with the Kenyan government to put an end to the protests in accordance with the constitution.
While expressing his sympathies with the families of protest casualties, he demanded the swift release of all imprisoned protestors by the Kenyan police.
"Those who gave their lives fighting for a better future for their country" would be the names that would be remembered, he said.
Frank also demanded that the United Nations and President Trump step in and confront Ruto for his tyrannical behaviour.
Killing demonstrators is morally reprehensible.
"The government should protect them instead of killing them," he argued.
Last time there was a demonstration against Trump, we witnessed it. That is the essence of democracy: they sent the National Guard to defend the demonstrators, not eliminate them.
