Beginning on Monday, July 14, 2025, medical professionals in Ondo State will participate in a three-day warning strike organised by the National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP.
Ondo State Government officials have been accused of "grossly neglecting the health sector and the welfare of medical professionals," which has led to the current strike.
The state branch of NAGGMDP's chairman, Richard Obe, and secretary, Adekunle Owolabi, made this public in a statement.
Some general hospitals are getting by with just one doctor per entire local government area, which is one of the issues brought up in the statement. Another issue is the shortage of medical professionals.
Additionally, the doctors were against the unexpected tax hike that took effect in April 2025 without any kind of public hearing.
eight recently hired doctors who have been working for the company since October 2024 have had their salaries and benefits withheld.
The hazard allowances that were due in October–December 2023 and January 2024 remained unpaid.
From June to December of 2024, there is outstanding promotion backlog.
"Another members' unpaid allowances and salary shortfalls," the announcement read.
The doctors are reportedly requesting that the state government take swift action to resolve the problems, as stated in the statement.
If the demands made during the warning strike were not addressed, they threatened an indefinite industrial action that would have far-reaching ramifications for the state's already frail health system.
While reassuring the public of their dedication to healthcare service, the NAGGMDP stressed that they are unable to carry on in such trying circumstances any longer.
Additionally, it mentioned that on July 1, 2025, the state administration was sent with an ultimatum that had a duration of fourteen business days.
