In Benue, troops apprehend 25 alleged bandits and kidnappers

A coordinated operation along the Katsina-Ala–Takum Federal Highway in Benue State has resulted in the arrest of 25 alleged bandits and kidnappers.

The Benue State Police Command made this announcement in a statement.

According to them, the patrol was started on Monday in response to intelligence information of planned attacks on Tor-Donga town by suspected bandits and armed herders.

The statement said that the patrol squad was guided by reliable intelligence to Gbise, a known hot spot along the route, where four suspects were first caught trying to escape after spotting the security convoy.

As they made their way back to Tor-Donga, the agents noticed unusual activity in the same Gbise neighborhood.

According to the statement, 21 further individuals were apprehended during a general search of the area, which was thought to be connected to recent kidnappings and banditry in the region.

Concerns over assaults by armed herdsmen and kidnappings have led to increased security in Katsina-Ala and the surrounding areas.
