Video assistant referee plays a key role in Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Tottenham

Due to the lack of "serious foul play," the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not suggest that Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber be sent off after tackling Tottnham Hotspurs' Pedro Porro.

Referee Jarrad Gillett set a new Premier League record with seven yellow cards in a ferocious first half.

In the 35th minute, Timber was awarded one of those. Players for the Spurs, though, thought it ought to have been a sentencing.

With his challenge foot firmly planted on top of the ball, the Dutchman managed to catch Porro.

Following the foul, a brawl broke out between the two squads; Timber eventually squared off against Spurs goalie Guglielmo Vicario, and the situation eventually subsided.

The video assistant referee did review Timber's tackle, but the yellow card ruling from the pitch held.

"Just hearing what has been fed into the VAR at Stockley Park," Gary Neville remarked while appearing on Sky Sports.

"According to reports, Timber's footing on the ball prevented it from rolling over, thereby avoiding a red card,"
