Ighalo called out Nigerians for their support of Osimhen's unsuccessful transfer from Napoli, saying, "He's in pain"

After Victor Osimhen's transfer request from Napoli was denied, Odion Ighalo, a former striker for the Super Eagles, slammed Nigerians for their online comments.

After transfer talks with Chelsea broke down, Osimhen was effectively cut from the Serie A club.

Fans' reactions on the internet were divided, with some supporting the athlete and his entourage and others condemning them.

Ighalo, however, wrote on Sunday morning's X: "No one is flawless, and we've all messed up".

"However, even without knowing the details, it breaks my heart to witness the insults made against this young man by his own countrymen.

This young kid plays with all his heart and suffers for his nation; I could sense the hurt in his voice as we spoke about how he has been treated.

Every day brings new lessons, so I guess it's all good. He'll return much stronger. Wishing everyone a joyful new month.
